Chances are your answer is \u2018no\u2019. But be careful: this could cost you money. The right to enforce payment of your claim does not last forever; your claim can expire.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<h5>Limitation period: time really is money<\/h5>\n<p>Limitation means that a claim can no longer be enforced against your debtor after a certain period has passed. How long this period lasts depends on the nature of your claim. Often there is a limitation period <span class=\"tooltip-icon\" data-tooltip=\"You can always contact us without obligation to find out which limitation period applies to your invoices and how you can adjust your general terms and conditions to your advantage.\">?<\/span> of five years, but it can also be longer or shorter. Sometimes you can influence the length of the limitation period yourself; in most cases, you can make agreements about this with your counterparty (for example, in your general terms and conditions). <\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<h5>Don\u2019t let your claims go up in smoke<\/h5>\n<p>But what if the end of the limitation period for your claim is (almost) approaching? Should you then throw your invoice in the trash? Fortunately, the answer is \u2018no\u2019. A limitation period that has not yet expired can be interrupted. Interruption means that limitation is prevented and a new limitation period starts to run. Interruption can take place in the following ways:<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<ul>\n  <li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n    <ul>\n      <li>Initiating legal proceedings for your claim<\/li>\n      <li>Sending a written reminder that clearly shows you are still asserting your claim<\/li>\n      <li>Recognition of the claim by your debtor<\/li>\n    <\/ul>\n  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Important: you can only interrupt the limitation period if it has not yet expired. So don\u2019t wait until it\u2019s too late \u2014 take action <span class=\"tooltip-icon\" data-tooltip=\"We can help you interrupt the limitation period in a legally correct way, using the method that best suits your situation.
